The canoe adventures blog page has been sadly neglected over the last year or so. I have moved the base of my operation from Dallas, TX to the rural setting of Castleton, VT. Started a home remodel project and have been spending time getting ready for a winter in a house that was lacking any heat source when I moved in.
New reviews will follow on a variety of goods.

The family owned fast food and fast trash delivery system know as Whataburger has refused to return phone calls to find out what the problem is with their waste bins, customer service, or anything to do with how so much of their food service trash ends up in our rivers and lakes. It is time to put and end to their trash in our landscape.
Please help them understand this is just wrong !!!

I just received my order of paddles from Bending Branches. I upgraded a few of my paddle needs to accommodate the variety of boats I now have. One of the paddles is a limited edition double bent shaft paddle. It is a beautiful wooden paddle. I was one their site and notice a new look and new link I would like to recommend to you. http://bendingbranches.com/launch-your-boat Having the gear is one thing, but getting on the water is another.
Have fun.
Do you ever see the dump trucks come along to collect trash in commercial dumpsters? The forks reach out and lift it high into the air above the truck and transfer the trash inside to the cargo hold? Well do you also see stuff flying out of the dumpster and not land inside? I do so here is what I recommend that you do. Get the phone number on the dumpster and call the company that services that dumpster. Let them know that you have seen this happen. Put both them and the location on notice that they need to do a better job containing the trash.
It will help keep the landscape cleaner, the waterways less impacted by floatables.
It is time to start a Shame Campaign? Yes, you know the kind. We need to get the distribution of single use styrofoam/polystyrene food container stopped. They litter the US from coast to coast. Organizations such as Keep America Beautiful didn’t even seriously look at our waterways until a few years ago. I tried repeatedly to get in touch with Whataburger corporate officers to talk to them about a problem with their trash ending up in a waterway located close to three of their restaurants. Not one return call. It is time to take to the Twitter feeds, the company web forums, the avenues available to use and begin to show other American what is out there. Most of the trash doesn’t come from the corporations themselves dumping it, but rather by choosing to use these containers to give the customer their food. The customer must take responsibility too. Join me in photographing, posting, and pin pointing the trash you find. Let’s pin it on the supply chain, user, all the sources and get the trash tap turned off.
When you are out paddling on a body of water that shouldn’t have power boats doesn’t mean it wont. Mid to late afternoon I was out paddling on a lake and creek near my house. There are not supposed to be any boats with large outboard motors out there. Low and behold but a john boat doesn’t come blasting up the creek late in the day around 3:45. In the winter, that is the beginning of dusk to late afternoon light and not always the best for speed. While they did slow down when they saw me, the guy were caring excessive speed. So Always be careful about the places you go and keep an open ear. The noise you hear may just be a boat coming your way.
River clean ups happen all over the place. These are sad but true facts of river life; trash finds them. Contact a local environmental group , look on Meet Up, contact the American Rivers organization for a clean up near you.
Paddling at night can be an awesome experience. Paddle at night at Caddo lake is great fun. The Dallas Down River club holds Caddoween the weekend before Halloween. The group dressing in costumes, decorates their tents, and holds a Dutch over cook off. Weather permitting some even go for a late night paddle.
While 1st reports that it was contained and would not make it to the lake itself, reports are telling a different story. http://www.tarsandsblockade.org/caddolake/
