Canoe Adventures

What sets a canoeing expedition apart is that it purifies you more rapidly and inescapably than any other travel. Travel a thousand miles by train and you are a brute; pedal five hundred on a bicycle and you remain basically a bourgeois; paddle a hundred in a canoe and you are already a child of nature.
      - Pierre Elliott Trudeau

There are times when a solo paddle, with no others around, is what you need to refresh the mind and body. And yet, other times we need to meet up with like minded paddlers to share the moments.

Welcome

Let's Go paddling! Paddling the rivers, streams, lakes and oceans can be thrilling. Like any outdoor adventure, a great time can be had with a some planning and luck. The planning keeps you safe and the luck provides the extrasensory input that takes a normal day and turns it into something special. These are also the times that require us to protect the environment for others to enjoy.

Boats, Gear, and Getting There

Because these activities don't happen in the backyard for most of us, we need to get our boats from home to a place to start our adventures. There'll be sections on getting the boat that matches your needs and some on gear to hold it all together. Also tips and gear suggestions to just make the experience a complete one.

Location, Location, Location or finding the right water

Finding the right water for your type of paddling trip might be just a few minutes away or it could take many hours of driving. How do you know once you get there if the water is still running? Or where the right water can be found? Books and web sites abound with listing and reviews. The USGS has online real time data for many stream, rivers and lakes that can provide accurate data. However, because the flow change quickly with storms or scheduled releases, it is best to monitor the water as well as find out the governing authority over it and get information about scheduled releases or action that might effect your trip. Links to regional resources for flows will be found here.

Camping Gear, Food and Hydration

Once you are there you need to eat, and replenish your fluids. Whether your out for a day or an extended journey the right preparations allow you to travel in comfort and safety. So there'll be information on diet, drinks, how to prepare for days or even weeks away from sources of food or water.

Guides, Outfitters, Experts

By nature, we look to share our experience. There'll be opportunity to look for guides, outfitters, and recreational opportunities in the days ahead. mail your suggestions, requests to info@canoeadventures.net
