Canoe Adventures

"Wherever there is a channel for water, there is a road for the canoe."   - Henry David Thoreau

There are times when a solo paddle, with no others around is what you need to refresh the mind and body. And yet, other times we need to meet up with like minded paddlers to share the moments.

Water to Ride - Trips

Let's Go paddling! To best utilize this selection of paddling locations, please down load Google Earth. The locations will allow you to download KMZ files to direct to the put in.

Texas Locations

Austin - San Marcos

Austin and it's surrounding landscape is in Central Texas. Gentle rolling hills to the west and mostly very gentle flatlands to the east.

San Marcos River

DFW Locations -

The Dallas Ft. Worth area has numerous lakes, creeks, and the Trinity river that provide mostly flat water paddling experiences.

White Rock Lake - Located in the Eastern side of Dallas, White rock lake offers both lake paddling and creek paddling; both flat water with the exception of high winds.

Trinity River - The Trinity River has multi places to put in and take out from west of Ft. Worth to Central Dallas through the Trinity Forest. Paddling can start all the way up in far North Texas at LAke Ray Roberts as the Trinity makes it's way south to the coast.

Lake Ray Hubbard - One of the bigger lakes on the eastern side of DFW, the lake allows power boats, ski ski, etc, so paddle craft need to be on the look out. I find the north side the best paddling. With Rowlett CReek and the East Fork of the Trinity, it offers long secluded paddling away from the hum and waves from the power craft.

Rowlett Creek to the Lake - The video shows us going out on the left channel. This year, the duck weed is quite thick, something that I have seen anywhere near this level in the past. The left channel is not my choice for paddling right now especially fro wider, rec kayaks. Use the right channels both directions. You'll also see the structure in the marina have been removed.

Rowlett Creek, Miller Road to Pleasant Valley Road- Again we start at Miller Road, but rather than paddling toward the lake we paddle up stream toward GW Bush Turnpike. The creek in this direction offers good shade most of the way except directly at mid day. Good bird life, turtles and some snakes will be seen here. This section is also quite well used by fishermen so be on the look out for lures, dangling line, etc. DORBA has an extensive mountain bike trail on the west or the Garland side. With a good water flow you can go quite far upstream.
