Camping Tips - Gear
When we are out on an adventure, we want it to be fun, exciting, and relaxing. These can be accomplished with a well planned camp. Many times, however, we don't what we'll find when we get there on a paddle adventure. It is not your typical car camping event where the tent pad or car spot is there with a picnic table and fire ring. When you pull off the river you need to find dry ground for the night where the landscape allows you to be. This means not on a completely exposed island on a windy night, nor under a rock ledge, or on top of an ant hill. Your camp will include cooking, cleaning, sleeping, a group relaxation area and toilet area.
Cooking Gear
Stoves come in many sizes and types these days from propane, to alcohol, relatively heavy to light and compact. What kind should you bring on your adventure? We'll take a look at some advantages and disadvantages of each. Pots and pans are part of most kitchens are like your stove, and again there is no one best answer.
Tents - Covering
Tents come in many sizes, prices categories, specific uses and one will usually be found to fit your needs whatever they may be. It may make sense to have a couple in your gear closet, so that you can choose the most appropriate one to take with you on your adventure. Some tents are best for cold and windy conditions, some large and roomy. Basics include setting them up on a dry level surface if you can find it free from obstructions sticking up from the ground like tree roots, sharp rocks and things like that. Placing a tarp under your tent can help keep it dry and prevent the liner from getting damaged by punctures.
General Camp Gear
Flashlights, head lights, potable potty and collapsible tables are but a few of the items that make for a safe a well functioning campsite. Extra tent poles allow you to set up tarps as kitchen covers or for an extra fly for your tent.
